A COMMUNITY OF WORD & SPIRIT
HillSong Church is a Christian community defined
by our adherence to God's Word and dependence on the Holy
Spirit. We believe Word & Spirit were the basis for the church's
formation on the day of Pentecost and, therefore, should be our
foundation as well. Thus, our guiding documents, which consist
of our beliefs, mission, vision, and core values are reflective
of the premium we place on scriptural authority and the Spirit's
empowering presence in our lives. Furthermore, our aim is to
align our behavior with the intentions expressed by these
documents. We acknowledge such an ideal is impossible without
God's help. Yet, as our behaviors align with our intentions, we
fulfill our desire to become passionately devoted followers of
Jesus Christ.
OUR
BELIEFS
(What We Stand For)
We believe the Bible is the inspired
Word of God and our sole authority for faith and practice.
We believe the criterion by which the
Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.
We believe in the unity and trinity of
God, eternally existing as three equal persons Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit.
We believe in the full deity and
humanity of Jesus Christ.
We believe in the sinfulness of all
persons. One result of sin is shattered relationships with God,
self, and others.
We believe that eternal salvation and
restored relationships are uniquely possible through faith in Jesus
Christ who died for us, was raised by God from the dead, and is
coming again. This salvation is offered to all people.
We believe in the work of the Holy
Spirit in salvation and in the renewing presence and power of the
Holy Spirit in the life of the believer and the church.
We believe in the equality and
essential dignity of men and women of all races, ages, classes,
recognizing that all are made in the image of God.
We believe both men and women are
divinely gifted and called to develop and use their God-given gifts
for the good of the church, home, and society.
For a complete description of our
beliefs please see the
1963
Baptist Faith and Message.
OUR MISSION
(Our Purpose)
Our mission is to make passionately
devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
(Matthew 28:19-20)
OUR
VISION
(Our Method)
Our vision is to credibly present Jesus
Christ to spiritual seekers.
(1 Corinthians 9:19-23)
As passionately devoted followers of Jesus Christ we will make
Jesus' mission to seek and to save the lost our mission.
Therefore, nothing Jesus might ask of us to make Him credible to
spiritual seekers will be too hard for us as a church...We will,
then, so long as it does not violate scripture, doctrine, or our
core values, put aside our preferences in favor of the
preferences of seekers...Ministries will always have, as one of
their goals, reaching seekers with God's grace...As individuals
we will consciously attempt to cultivate and establish
relationships with seekers...We will constantly look for ways to
invite seekers to experience the benefits of authentic Christian
community to be found within our church...We will equip
ourselves with the necessary skills and information to credibly
communicate the Good News of Jesus Christ by word and
action...We will not be spiritually satisfied until our passion
for following Jesus' teachings have been transferred to seekers
who declare Jesus as Lord...We do so not simply to fulfill the
Great Commission but, as recipients of God's grace, to fulfill
Jesus' Great Command of loving others as ourselves...Finally,
our joy will be the transformation of spiritual seekers into
passionately devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
OUR CORE
VALUES
( What's Really Important to Us)
A PASSION FOR JESUS CHRIST
Foremost in the life of our church is a
passion for Jesus Christ manifested by an adherence to God's Word
and a dependence on the Holy Spirit's empowering presence.
(John 14:23-26)
WITNESSING TO THE GOOD NEWS OF
JESUS CHRIST
Flowing out of God's love for the world
is our commitment to lovingly witness the good news of Jesus Christ
to our family, friends and other seekers.
(John. 3:16-17)
CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
We value as essential establishing and
nurturing a Christian community united in love for Jesus Christ and
one another.
(John 13:34-35)
DISCIPLESHIP
We are dedicated to helping Christians
become passionate in their devotion for the person, mission and
life-style of Jesus Christ.
(Matthew 28:16-20)
THE MINISTRY OF GRACE
Having received and benefited from
God's unconditional love, our desire is to minister His grace to
others.
(Ephesians 2:1-10)
