Financial Giving at HillSong Church
Giving of monetary tithes and offerings at HillSong Church has
always been about obedience to God. It is the natural thankful
response of giving back to God a portion of what God provides for
us. A time for giving has been placed at the end of HillSong’s
weekly worship service so you may share in this important aspect of
worship.
In Malachi 3:10, God says, “Bring the whole
tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test
me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw
open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you
will not have room enough for it.”
According to the Old Testament, a tithe
is ten percent given back to God before any other obligations are
considered. An offering is an additional amount above the
tithe, usually given as evidence of further gratitude for blessings
received.
In addition to financial gifts, certainly God
also wants us to give our time, spiritual gifts, talents and energy,
as an offering to Him.
How to Ensure Proper Recording of Tithes and
Offerings
HillSong Church collects all of its donations and deposits them
immediately into either the General Fund, which is the
Church’s operations budget, or into the Specials Fund, if the
donation has been designated for a specific purpose. Examples of
Specials Fund designations include fundraisers for mission
trips, annual Foreign Mission support collected in December, or
Memorial receipts.
A Specials Fund designation must already
exist or be established by Church leadership to qualify as a
charitable contribution for tax reporting purposes.
Note: Checks (even
those to designated Specials Funds)
should be made payable to “HillSong Church,” unless directed
otherwise.
Whether donating cash or by check, please
follow these simple instructions:
-
Place your donation in an offering envelope provided by the
church—write your full name and address legibly on the outside
of the envelope. Envelopes are in the back pocket of the
sanctuary chairs.
Note: You may obtain a
supply of envelopes for your household to use. Boxes of envelopes
are available on the Information Table in the back of the sanctuary.
-
Please fill in the amount and the category on the envelope
face—or your donation will be assumed to be a General Fund
donation.
-
Use separate envelopes and please write separate checks—if
you are making donations to the General Fund and a
Specials Fund designation. (This helps the money counters
sort and deposit your donation quickly and accurately.)
Electronic Transfers
Direct payroll deposit recipients can designate electronic direct
donations to HillSong Church. If you receive your payroll check from
your employer by direct deposit, you can obtain an information kit
that will help you instruct your payroll office to establish any
portion you designate as a direct deposit to HillSong Church.
Contribution Statements
By January 31st of the next calendar year, a household
cumulative contribution statement should be mailed to the household
address of record.
Donating Stocks, Bonds, & Mutual Funds
Most market-traded stocks, bonds, and mutual funds can be given
in lieu of cash contributions. You can obtain an informational kit
that will help you instruct your brokerage agent on how to transfer
ownership of such assets to the Church. Usually, the Church
immediately liquidates these holdings and places the receipts into
the General Fund unless they are designated for an existing
Specials Fund.
