Testimony about Small Groups
Some time ago, I joined a new small group, the Ladies
Evening Bible Study (or, as John Charles calls us, the ladies of the
evening), mainly because I wanted to be in a Bible study, couldn’t
go to a daytime meeting, and the study was going to be one of Beth
Moore’s. Another big item was that Beth Roberts was the leader and I
had been in a study with her several years ago and really learned a
lot.
I did not know the other people in the group very
well at that time. As we met each week, Beth would ask for prayer
requests and praises. At first, I believe we all were a little
reserved in speaking out loud about things in our personal lives;
but we learned pretty quickly not only to trust each other, but to
bare our souls to each other. You would be amazed at the results of
many of these prayers. We have prayed for salvation for family
members & friends that we love. We have prayed for employment
opportunities. We have prayed about health issues for co-workers,
church members, and family members. We have prayed about situations
in our work place that couldn’t be handled alone. We have prayed for
our nation and its leaders.
At this point in our group, we are completely at ease
with each other and know that we can share very personal problems,
challenges, sorrows, concerns as well as joys and know that they
will stay within our group. I, personally have never felt
comfortable revealing things about my private life to others,
especially to a group. But I know that with this group, my heart is
safe and that there will be no judgment, only love and support.
We meet on Thursday evenings, from 7–8:30 p.m. By the
time Thursday night comes, we are all very tired and sometimes it
would be very easy to just stay home, but something draws us here
each week. God’s word and the fellowship of these wonderful women of
God are rejuvenating to me and I believe to the others in this small
group.
If you are not in a small group at this time, I
encourage you to find one that suits your interests and your
schedule. I believe you will be blessed.
